Andrea Cabrita

ANDREA CAKE ATELIER

Meet Andrea, creative director, baker and cake designer of the family owned business, Andrea Cake Atelier. Together with her husband Juan, they create spectacular and beautiful bespoke cakes.

Certified as a Pastry Chef and self-taught cake decorator, Andrea has put her heart and soul into her new Perth based business and with her expertise and creative flair, brings to life the most delicious cakes, crafted with finest ingredients. Whether it’s a cake design for a romantic wedding or a novelty showstopper, Andrea creates unique and beautiful cakes specially customised for the occasion or celebration. Andrea’s cake creations cover a wide range of designs that exhibit her expertise with buttercream, fondant, figurines and flower arrangements. For Andrea, it is not just about the cake, it is about you, your celebration, and the memories you will build out of it.  

What got you into the Cake Baking and Decorating Industry?

I’ve always loved food and cooking, especially anything sweet. I always knew I wanted to be a chef and wanted to specialise in desserts. A short time after finishing school I started making cookies, lava cakes and cupcakes for friends and family. Suddenly I found myself baking cakes and sweets every weekend and learning new techniques through video tutorials and blogs. My love and passion for baking and cake decorating had been ignited and the dream was born to have my own business one day.

The History of Andrea Cake Atelier

I was born in Venezuela, where I started my cake decorating career and first business. I ran my home cake business for 4 years before moving to Australia in 2015. I came to Australia to study and by 2018, I had completed my Cert III and Cert IV in patisserie and my Diploma in Hospitality. Following my studies, I started working in a cupcake shop where I continued decorating cakes and desserts and building my career through the years, working from a casual pastry assistant at a wholesale pastry kitchen to running a kitchen at a dessert shop. I always yearned to go back to my cakes and cupcakes and finally took the plunge after my second baby was born, to venture in the entrepreneurial world once again and build my cake business from scratch. In November 2020 I started Andrea Cake Atelier.

What do you love about the Cake Baking and Decorating Industry?

I love making edible art. I love the alchemy of cakes and pairing flavours and textures to create not only beautiful sweet pieces but delicious treats. Plus, nothing beats the smile on my customer’s faces when they see and taste my cakes. I love that I get to be part of people’s special moments and doing it by expressing my love in cake form.

Anita Human

AUSTRALIAN WILDFLOUR PASTRY CO

Anita Human is the sweet talent behind Vintique Cakes, a boutique sugar art business based in rural NSW and more recently, her new venture and passion, The Australian Wildflour Pastry Co.

​Her regal and timeless cake designs of Vintique Cakes have won awards across Australia as well as her work being featured in magazines and books internationally. As a Pastry Chef Anita has taught and demonstrated sugar art all over Australia at major industry events, cooking schools and retailers and since then, has turned her focus to Gluten Free baking and cake decorating, with the creation of The Australian Wildflour Pastry Co.

What got you into the Cake Baking and Decorating Industry?

I’ve loved baking and cake decorating since I was a little girl. But it was many years later that it became a hobby when I was living on the farm and to fill my spare time, baking and cake decorating became my creative outlet and passion.  

The History of Australian Wildflour Pastry Co

I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia. I trained as a nurse until I moved to the country, where I lived and worked remotely on cattle, sheep and cropping farms for a number of years until I started Vintique Cakes. I’m a self-taught Pastry Chef who has had the opportunity to work with amazing chefs in some great kitchens, learning skills in all aspects of the kitchen and have taught and demonstrated decorating around Australia.

It was when I moved to Queensland in 2021 that I began my new venture, The  Australian Wildflour Pastry Co which is an exclusively Gluten Free Patisserie specialising in French Style pastries, breads and gateaux as well as Event Catering. I started Australian Wildflour Pastry Co after I could see a demand for good Gluten Free baking and now work full time for myself.

POSH LITTLE CAKES

As the saying goes, practice makes perfect and when it comes to cakes, Jenne at Posh Little Cakes has perfected the art of creating stunning small batch artisanal cakes and desserts.

Her signature cake designs are instantly recognisable with her creamy vanilla buttercream, beautiful soft hues and whimsical designs. Based in Perth, Jenne has created a reputable and highly successful business, with a strong base of loyal clientele and an impressive 280k followers on her Instagram page and her highly successful online classes and workshops.

What got you into the Cake Baking and Decorating Industry? 

Cake baking and decorating was always a part of me from a young age, but I really stepped into the business of serious caking around 6 years ago when we moved back to Australia with my young family after living abroad for 10 years and as I entered parenthood, I shifted my marketing career to a home baking business with my own hours and flexibility.

The History of Posh Little Cakes

I was in Marketing (for a global mining company) for 13 years. During these years, I learnt invaluable aspects of running an end-to-end supply chain with concepts of capacity maximisation, throughput management, zero waste production lines, logistics, customer service, invoice and receivables. Looking back, I realise that I have successfully applied all that I learnt from my previous career years into Posh Little Cakes. I have always been creative and this skill has only developed deeper as I continue to create buttercream masterpieces based on my self-taught ideas and inspirations.

What do you love about the Cake Baking and Decorating Industry?

I love the creative freedom my clients give me to create my art in the form of cakes. I love experimenting with different edible mediums and techniques and love that my clients trust me to create them something bespoke and one of a kind. This industry is truly rewarding as you get to see the instant gratification of the clients picking up their cakes from my studio. I love seeing their reactions at pickup as you can see the amazement and joy in their eyes. My cakes are always going to a special celebration from big to small and its so special to be a part of these joyous occasions.

Maria Racovalis

Maria Racovalis, creator and business owner of Bouquet Cakes, specialises in buttercream cupcake bouquets. Her signature Bouquet Cakes are ‘flowers you can eat’ created with colourful, detailed and true to life piped flower designs. Her stunning and unique Bouquet Cakes have become a sought after gift option for someone special or for that special occasion. What got you into the Cake Baking and Decorating Industry?

My buttercream flower journey began nearly two years ago when I stumbled across this art on social media. My first flower I ever piped was the rose. I was terrible at first and gave up for a short while, but then decided to persevere and continue practising and the rest is history as they say. Bouquet Cakes require fine piping details and I spent hours practising and perfecting my skill. Initially, I made bouquets for friends and family. Once I had mastered the skill of piping varied cupcake designs, I expanded and the word quickly got out about my bouquet cakes and the orders started flowing in. Today my passion and creativity for creating beautiful cupcakes has become a successful business including my highly successful Bouquet Cake workshops.

What do you love about the Cake baking and Decorating Industry?

For me, cake decorating has filled a void. I get to be creative and bake which I love but best of all and the most rewarding part for me, I get to see the reaction on my customer's faces when they collect their order – it’s absolutely priceless.  I’m so happy that my work either inspires others to want to learn this skill with my workshops and choose my Bouquet Cakes as a gift to someone special.

Meet Monica Cavallaro. This cheeky, fun loving sugar queen is a multi-nominated 6’3” baking and caking powerhouse! The creator of The More Range and innovative techniques, Monica continues to grow in the cooking community by appealing to kids and grownups alike. Think mischievous sweet maker meets domestic goddess… 

When it comes to cake baking and decorating, Monica has done it all - Judge, Presenter, Teacher, Baker, Recipes, More Range Creator, Cake Decorator and of course More!

What got you into the Cake Baking and Decorating Industry?

I think like most cakers, I started when my kids were born. We couldn’t afford the cake I wanted so I figured I would make it myself. It was a trainwreck as I had no clue what I was doing, but it was the start of something. As time grew, so did my skills and confidence. When my daughter was born, I was home ill for a long spell and baking and caking kept me sane. It wasn’t until 2013 that I even considered my hobby to be a caking business. Fast forward a few years and I was on The Australian Bake Off, making cakes for Married at First Sight and Zumbo’s Just Desserts... who would have imagined back then I would end up here! Never in a million years. This proves never say never and dream big because you can achieve even more than your wildest dreams.

The History of Moreish Cakes

I started my studies in Music and Arts, wanting to be a music or art teacher. My parents weren’t too keen so I went into corporate life. Worked my way through the ranks from debt collector to customer service, to office manager, right though to Business Manager and Online Business Manager. I thought I would remain in corporate life forever and always said, caking was my side hustle. By April 2019, I had quit my job and baked and caked full time. Best decision ever. 

Moreish Cakes Speciality

Not to sound like a tosser, but I think I am the rare quintessential all-rounder. Not many cakers love working with fondant as much as they do buttercream or ganache. There isn’t much that I don’t truly and passionately love about all things sugar-making. More cakes to meringues to marshmallows and more! I don’t often get to showcase my baking skills but I still do a lot of it behind the scenes.

I always joke that I am always the bridesmaid and never the bride! I think over the years I have been up for 30 to 40 awards and am yet to win one. This proves, winning an award won’t make or break your career, but I would love to win one, one day!
